Nature-based Counseling & Psychotherapy

David practices therapy with teens and adults from all walks of life. Come as you are.

In-person sessions can be held outdoors, with meetings taking place at nearby trailheads, parks, or the llama farm. We can walk-and-talk, find a place to sit quietly, or connect with the natural world through activities such as woodcraft, canoeing, llama trekking, land art, and (seasonal) berry picking.

Sessions are also available at our home office near the town of Hot Springs, NC. Telehealth sessions are possible for those that may reside further away, are traveling, or prefer to meet virtually.

Therapeutic Specialties and Expertise:

Session rates:

The initial consultation is free of charge. Costs for subsequent sessions vary. David offers a sliding scale ($90-$120/hour) and is able to further adapt costs to your current economic situation if needed. We can talk about costs further during our initial meeting.

What to expect:

Contact me for a consultation.

David will return your contact at the soonest opportunity. We will schedule a 20-minute call to discuss treatment fit, exchange contact information, agree to a session rate, and plan a follow-up appointment if helpful.

Afterward, David will provide you with information regarding the encrypted text messaging application he uses, the virtual meeting platform utilized for telehealth, how to complete your intake paperwork, and how to conduct payment transactions.

The first session may be held in person at the office, or virtually. From there we will assess the appropriate frequency and length of sessions, as well as how often/where we would meet outdoors

For telehealth meetings, it is helpful if you have a reliable internet connection, gentle lighting, and a set of headphones. You will need to enforce your own privacy in selecting a location and appointment time.

Cancellation Policy:

Once a session is scheduled, the full session fee is the no-show/cancellation fee. Rescheduling two business days before or after the original date, subject to availability, is encouraged at no charge.

Payment Methods (and Insurance):

We accept cash, check, and all credit and debit cards. Payments are due at or before the beginning of session. Payments are auto-billed to a card on file on the day of each session.

David does not submit claims to insurance, and is not in-network with any insurance company. If you have a PPO, David may be able to be an “out of network” provider.  You will still be charged at the time of service, but David will provide you with a detailed record of payment (“superbill”) that you can submit for possible reimbursement monthly.  Your PPO plan will determine your benefits and reimbursement.  Simply ask your insurance company about the “out of network” benefits for therapy to understand what they will cover. Please be aware that by submitting a superbill for reimbursement, you may grant your insurance company the right to access your records.
